A LETTER FROM BILL DE BLASIO TO ME

Donald -
Today, we celebrate our larger New York family and the fundamental understanding that binds New Yorkers together:
That big dreams are not a luxury reserved for a privileged few, but the animating force behind every community, in every borough.
So now, as we begin a new year and open the next chapter of our city's history, we commit to a new progressive direction in New York.
We will reform a broken stop-and-frisk policy, protect health care in all communities, and ask the very wealthy to pay a little more in taxes so that we can offer full-day universal pre-K and after-school programs for every middle school student.
We know this won’t be easy. And it won’t be accomplished only by me.
It will be accomplished by all of us.
Together, we will remember that we are a city of five boroughs -- all created equal. And that New York is a city that fights injustice and inequality, not just because it honors our values, but because it strengthens our people.
When I said we would take dead aim at the Tale of Two Cities, I meant it.
And we will do it.
Our march towards a fairer, more just, more progressive place — our march to keep the promise of New York alive for the next generation — begins today.
I will honor the faith and trust you have placed in me. And we will give life to the hope of so many in our city.
I couldn't be more proud to have you by my side,
Bill

And my response:

Thanks so much Bill.

I represent a wide range of hard working New Yorkers and citizens throughout the country; who have been left out in the cold in the Free Market economy and its fundamental hyper-capitalist reliance on profits over people.

We fought and believed in your candidacy at The Appeal because we knew that you were a true progressive; whom if elected could bring back a fundamental economic, social and political fairness to hard working New Yorkers and those struggling in these hard economic times begat primarily by Wall Street casino like speculating, de-regulation and The Free Market Frankenstein Monster economy that favors the rich, corporations, and profits over people and workers.

We will be with you every step of the way and are rejuvenated having used the democratic process to assist in your election.

We recognize that the monied interests feel threatened by your not playing the game by their rules and they will do everything in their powers (media, newspapers, radio hosts, etc.) to de-legitimize your policies and begin subverting your attempts to rectify the Tale Of Two Cities and legitimize the status quo by propping back up the head, i.e., the status quo.

This is where we can and will play our role by actively educating and supporting you and your policies to get the word out on their true aims.

We know that nothing will come easy and are prepared to go the long haul. It will not be easy pickings.

That being said we are heartily encouraged and reinvigorated by your election as Mayor of New York City and will fight tooth and nail for you every step of the way.

Your calm and measured approach coupled with your everyman's empathic approach to help enact policies that will look to HELP ALL NEW YORKERS, especially those who are struggling most, brings a measure of assurance that although the struggle may be difficult we hold the higher moral ground, that can lead us through the troubled waters with heads held high, in the expectations that surely we are heading for calmer seas and better lands and a more inclusive, egalitarian and just society

Look forward to going to your inauguration.

And standing by your side every step of the way.

Donald Reith
